Retail Experience
The Harrington Market is a small convenience store owned by the University of Delaware where students can purchase items using their student point cards. My primary tasks there were to operate the register and keep the shelves and refridgerators stocked with merchandise. When the store was empty, I often also organized the stock room, cleaned the counter area, and checked for expired food items. Depending on which shift I worked, I was also required to sweep, mop, or take out the garbage at the end of the shift.
I worked at Target for several summers and during a few winter breaks while I was in college. I was usually placed in the domestics department (the set of aisles for bedding, towels, rugs, curtains, etc.), but occassionally worked in other departments as needed. My primary task was to systematically check the aisles to make sure all merchandise was displayed neatly. This involved putting items back where they belonged, fetching more merchandise from the storeroom, and refolding or repackaging items. I always offered assistance to any customers I came across. Since the domestics department was next door to the furniture department, I often assisted in moving furniture onto trolleys and delivering them to the registers. I was trained as a cashier and occasionally was called to the registers to relieve long lines.

Caraluzzi's Bethel Food Market is a family-owned grocery store where I worked as a cashier. As a cashier I was responsible for ringing up customers and also packing their goceries into bags. |
